Monday. Yuck! I had a good day off though got a little knitting done. :) I might actually be done with my scarf by the first of the week! Hooray!! I'm in a rather good mood which is good because I won't be when I have to wake up tomorrow and go to work. :( I'm grateful to have a job don't get me wrong it's just time for something different!)
I do have a cpl things that I thought I would share my opinion about today. I guess I will start with the one that I will be short.
I have been reading some things online and have come across reports that there is a petition out that is asking Sesame Street to marry Bert and Ernie. Understand that I don't have a problem with gay marriage (per se). However this show is for children not that I think that children should be sheltered. Here is what I DO have a problem with. Part of the Petition reads, "We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful..."It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different." First of all that is exactly what Bert and Ernie are there for they are the best of friends but two very different people. Second it is not the job of a television show, the media, or the school systems to teach a child about tolerance. That is the job of the child's parents!!!! Not that these things don't have a hand in teaching them but their primary purpose is not that! Third why do children in preschool through 1st grade need to be worried about someones sexual orientation!!! They are children! It is not important for them to worry about these kinds of things! Just like with the teen choice awards the age range for those is 13 to 19 for voters but everything that won was completely inappropriate for someone under the age of 16 if not older! They are teaching children about sex at younger and younger ages and all the supposedly age appropriate shows or movies according to the media are riddled with things that are in no way appropriate! This is where the parenting should be kicking in and teaching their children about which of these things are right and wrong and at the proper age! Lastly on this topic Sesame Street did issue a statement about their stance on the wedding. "Bert and Ernie are best friends. "They were created to teach preschoolers people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though the Sesame Street Muppets ... possess many human traits and characteristics, they have no sexual orientation."
Okay okay I will get off my soapbox now!! I was gonna cover another topic but I said alot about that and will have other probably less offensive things to rant about tomorrow! Besides I had more to say about that than I intended lol.
